A Trip to Setiu :)

I kicked off my holidays with a 3 days 2 night trip to Setiu, Terengganu.
Organized by Taylor's College with the help of WWF Malaysia. :)

The route to Terengganu took about 10 hours. Cramps are unavoidable. The bus driver was a nice guy but his driving was super fast. Imagine a 44-seater bus on the fast-right-lane and overtaking cars like its a Fairlady instead of a 1-tonne bus.

Departed at 8.30am.
Reached at around 6.00pm.

Jing Yuan. Both of us with our sleepy faces.

this inn was really cheap. 2 Queen-sized beds with a bathroom, RM 150 per night. But!!! The condition of the room was terrible. At least, my room was terrible. There were frogs, cockroaches, lizards and loads of bugs. *Yucks!*
Every time my friends and I open the bathroom, we spotted at least 2 cockroaches in the bathroom. EVERY TIME! *Disgusting!* So the Killing Spree is on for Olivia! xD She used to be afraid of cockroaches but somehow, she overcome her fear and became our roach-killer xD

Here's the room

the floor is filled with sand as if it have not been swept for a few years. :(

The G4s took Room2 and Room3.

Free and Easy means it is time to go to the beach! I just can't stop taking photos of the scenery down at the beach. It was awesome!! :D

Taken by Olivia using her BB Bold. I never thought BB camera can take such a good photo wey! xD

By Jing Yuan or Olivia. I forgot. Heh!

With Jing Yuan :D

phailed. Only half of Olie's face.

much better :D
From left: Uzma, Me, Jing Yuan and Olivia :D

Almost! Phailed again :(

Ling Hui's sexyback xD

we attended a WWF talk by a biologist from which I only know he is called Jimmy.
Later on, we were taken to the turtle sanctuary to see how turtle eggs were "handled".

he was in-charge of the whole sanctuary.

We were lucky enough that a nest of 70 turtle eggs hatched when we were cleaning ourselves. We had the chance to see how the hatch-lings were released to the sea. They were so so cute when they waddled their way through the sand and into the sea. Sadly, we were not allowed to take any photos of them.

Annndddd.. The night sky in Setiu is AWESOME * Infinity! There were so so so many stars in the sky. It was as if every inch of the sky was covered with stars. And my camera was too lousy to even get a picture of it. It was seriously amazing! :D

The next day, Jing Yuan and I woke up at 5.30am to see the sunrise. We were too early. No one was up besides the two of us. So we sat at the empty coffee shop waiting for others to appear. At 6.00am, many woke up and we went down to the beach together.

At 6.00am. it was totally dark. Nothing besides the sound of the waves.
The photos starts at 6.15am I guess.

The final picture was taken at 6.55am. We left for our room as we had to gather at the hall at 7am.
Who knew our lecturer, Ms. Kalpana, told us that the sun finally showed itself at 7.00am! Should have waited and be late! lol

From Left : Ling Hui, Me, Valerie, Jing Yuan and Kimberly.

We were taken to the mangrove swamp for breakfast prepared by the PEWANIS (I forgot the full name xD its the 妇女组 of Setiu. Heh)

ok, this is the first time I actually saw a well. Haha! the water was really clean :)

The mangrove trees :)

can't. stop. taking. photos. xD

We were not in Setiu for vacation. We were there to clean the environment and to learn more about the turtles in Terengganu.
We took garbage bags and we started cleaning the beach. You'll be amazed by the number of lighters we found. We found slippers, dolls' arms, plastics, slippers, bottles, sponge, polystyrene etc. The beach is really, very very dirty. :(

And each of us planted a mangrove tree in the swamp. We had to dig the mud and bend into the water to test the depth of the hole. It was a muddilicious process. Too bad no camera in hand or I would have taken more photos. Haha!

Next stop, the Pink House, the PEWANIS headquarters I think.
They are really superwomen. The take care of their children, take care of the privileges of the women, make handicraft, fried crackers for sale and all sorts.

andd.. The food they cook were really nice. A typical rural dish :)

We went to the Turtle Conservation Centre (TCC) after the Pink House.
We got to know more about the centre and how it functions to save the turtles in Setiu.
They actually BUY turtle eggs from poachers at a price of RM 6.00 per egg. And Fishermen who brings in a turtle that they accidentally caught in their fishing net will get RM 5.00 per turtle. This centre needs a huge fund to run. If I'm one of those rich people, I would definitely "adopt" a turtle or donate an amount of money to TCC.

TCC :

Siamese twins. Turtles have twins too. But these two pair of twins died before hatching. :(

all these are real turtles that were unable to hatch.
the round ones are the zygotes. Kesian wey. And those eggs are real eggs, not ping-pong balls. lol

The 'skin' of the turtle's shell.

Every time we watch cartoons, the turtles can always run out of its shell, right? Well, this does not happen in reality -- Obviously. In fact, the turtle's spine is fused to its shell (as seen in the photo).

made by the citizen's of Setiu for TCC.

Our guide. She is Pelf and she is one of the members of TCC.

There were turtle souvenirs for sale to help raise the funds for their activities. The prices of each item is quite expensive for a student, but definitely not expensive for those who are working.

In the above picture is a zipper-tag (left) and a bracelet/anklet on the right.
A total of RM 17.
Do support them? Thanks to Aaron and Jing Yuan, I feel like I want to buy a tortoise from the pet store xD
Cut the story short, please check out their website :
or their Facebook page :
You can give a helping hand online :)

Ok, now back to Pink House.

Frying kerepek pisang (not keropok).

We bought a turtle for Aaron's turtle. Haha!

"basket" for Jacqueline.

The next thing we had to do was to play with the Setiu children.
They are so so so cute! But a lil camera shy xD

Now.. Check this out!
The kids at Setiu learn how to drive motorbikes at a very young age.

Cool! lol! I asked the girl when did she started riding the motorbike and she said around 9y/o! Hello! That's very very young can! I am 18y/o and I don't even know how to start the engine of the motorbike tqvm!

Next, is sunset. This was better than sunrise. It was so prreeeeeettttttttttyyyyyyy! I really can't stop taking photos!

Footsteps.
when the time is up, the waves just wash them away.

the sunset isn't really following the chronology. They just jump out of place and I'm too lazy to arrange them xD

and I thought photos like this are edited but hell, they are not!

Me! But well, obviously its just the shape without the face xD

Jing Yuan

In the hammock-y-swing.

The last day.

Went bike riding with Ling Hui, Jing Yuan and Li Pin.
We cycled a distance of I think 3km far? idk. Ms. Kalpana thought we're lost and she wanted to go rent a car and come look for us xD

we saw a neon colored snake and kind of went after it to see where did it go. We must be crazy crazy girls. lol.

Well, this is the nearest to a group picture I can find. The group picture was taken by a camera belonging to someone idk. so heh.. will have to wait long long to find it.

It was a really meaningful trip and definitely an eye-opener. I learned so much from this trip. I want to go again! Haha! But I definitely don't want to stay in the same hotel! :P
